Thomas Dee Burr

Thomas Dee Burr of St. Johns, Michigan passed away on October 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was born in Beaverton, Michigan on October 11, 1938, to R. Earl and Grace (Kintner) Burr. He started working at Perry's IGA at a young age and continued through his college years. After graduating from Beaverton High School in 1956, he spent two years at "Sault Tech" working on an engineering degree. He transferred to Central Michigan University where he graduated with a degree in education, launching the vocation he was passionate about. Tom began his teaching career at Fulton Schools in 1961, spending time both as a principal and teaching in his favorite spot, the industrial arts rooms until he retired then spent a few years selling farm equipment. Tom often spoke fondly of the many students who had become lifelong friends.
On March 31, 1962, Tom married the love of his life, Linda Hicks. They welcomed their daughter, Cindy in 1963 and son, Scott in 1966. The Burrs raised their kids as part of strong church community and on farms that provided them with all the wonderful life lessons farming brings.
Tom and Linda were members of the Gideons International for 53 years. They were members of New Haven Church of the Brethren in Middleton until they moved to St. Johns where they became members of Pilgrim Global Methodist Church.
Whether it be with a fishing pole, a golf club, a pheasant hunt, an antique tractor or a cup of coffee, Tom was always ready to have a good long conversation! He took pride in restoring his Allis Chalmers G and Farmall A. He was a man of many talents but most of all, he was a Godly man who was still desiring to share the gospel in his last days. His entire family received the blessings of his daily intercessions for them.
He was preceded in death by his bride of 61 years, Linda Jean, and his parents Earl and Grace Burr.
Left to carry on his legacy are his children, Cynthia (Jim) Thelen and Scott (Amy) Burr. Grandchildren: Katie (Luke) Dockweiler, Evan (Kelly) Hoyt, Ashley Burr, Grant Thelen, Leah Thelen, Elizabeth (Jared) Zink, Emma (Jeremy) Piron, Joshua Burr, and Josiah Burr. Tom and Linda were also blessed with eleven great-grandchildren: Lily, Adalie, Ian, Elle, Levi, Jack, Nora, Dominic, Valerie, Jedidiah, and Stanley. He is also survived by his sister, Annie (Don) Courneya and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns, on Friday, October 18, from 4-7PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Pilgrim Global Methodist Church, 2965 W. Parks Rd., St. Johns, on Saturday, October 19, at 2PM with Pastor Andy Croel officiating.
