Thomas Patrick Buzhardt, Sr., 97, of Newberry, died Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at his residence.
Born on July 8, 1927 in Newberry, he was the son of the late Walter and Eunice Shealy Buzhardt. He served his country during World War II as a Navy Veteran. Mr. Buzhardt was a graduate of Newberry College and played on its first tennis team. He loved all sports, and played mill league baseball. Mr. Buzhardt worked at South Carolina National Bank, served as office manager for the Kendall Company, Oakland Plant, and was the city of Newberry's finance director for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Newberry. Mr. Buzhardt served on the Newberry County Council and was a former chairman. He farmed all of his life and loved all of his animals.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eunice Burgess Buzhardt; a son, Tommy (Sioban) Buzhardt of Newberry; a daughter, Jane (Ashley) Rowe of Newberry; grandchildren, Patrick (Kristine Kapatos) Rowe of Newberry, Seth Buzhardt of Pomaria, and Katelyn Buzhardt of Pomaria.
He was predeceased by sisters, Louise Buzhardt, Bonnelle Buzhardt White, and Libby Buzhardt.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Albert Allen. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Kingdom Advance Relocation Fund, 1020 Boundary Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to MSA Hospice, 2228 Harrington Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pall bearers will be Tommy Buzhardt, Ashley Rowe, Patrick Rowe, Seth Buzhardt, Katelyn Buzhardt, and Mike Jones.
