Thomas Barry Calhoun (A.K.A. Ace or Granddaddy) of Conroe, Texas passed away on October 23, 2024, at the age of 83. He was born in Oak Park, Illinois on January 24, 1941 to his parents Richard Adams Calhoun (1911-1992) and Mary Wagner (1915-1994) both from Deltona, FL.
Tom grew up in Park Ridge, IL and the family moved to Miami, FL during his elementary school years. He graduated from Edison Senior High School in 1959. He also graduated from Florida State University in 1963, where he was a proud member of the SAE Fraternity. During college, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and proudly served 6 years before being honorably discharged. After undergraduate school, he attended and graduated from University of Florida Law School. Afterward, he practiced law in Miami, eventually moving his family to Tallahassee, FL and then Houston, TX. He retired in 2001.
Tom was an avid Florida State Seminole football fan, probably the biggest fan you'd ever meet. He also was a staunch Democrat and really loved to debate, sometimes argue with his two sons. Tom had many wonderful friends that he met through his career. We were really hoping Dad would have lived to see the election results, but it was not meant to be.
Tom was loved by so many. He truly will be missed. He married Nancy Ellen Morton in Miami, FL on December 21, 1963 and they remained married until her death on May 15, 2023.
Tom is survived by his two sons Christopher John Calhoun and wife Helen of Conroe, TX; Thomas Robert (Bobby) Calhoun and wife Hillary of Cleveland, TX; sister-in-law, Pat Calhoun of Naples, FL; brother-in-law, Earl Jeffers of Sapphire, NC; sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Morton Carpenter of Talking Rock, GA; brother-in-law, John Watson Morton, Jr. and wife Stephanie of Fort Collins, CO as well as a host of nephews and nieces.
Tom absolutely loved all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. He enjoyed spending time with all of them. All his grandchildren were able to speak with him hours before he passed. With every grandchild, he had tears coming out of his eyes listening to their voices. Left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren Madison Timberlake and husband Colton of Houston, TX, Macey Benavides and husband J.T. of The Woodlands, TX, Abigail Gomez and husband Hilario of Magnolia, TX, Payton Calhoun of Bastrop, TX, Jack Calhoun of The Woodlands, TX, and Olivia Calhoun of Cleveland, TX. Also surviving are his two new loves, his two great-granddaughters, Lucy Timberlake and Noulie Benavides.
Tom also learned recently that he was going to be a Great Granddaddy for the third time, with baby Maxton Gomez due in April 2025.
Tom is preceded in death by his wife of 59-1/2 years, Nancy Ellen Morton Calhoun, his parents, his father and mother-in-law, John and Nancy Morton of Tallahassee, FL, his older brother, Dick Calhoun of Woodstock, GA, his older sister and best friend, Laura John Jeffers of Sapphire NC, his brother-in law, Jim Carpenter of Talking Rock, GA, nephew Danny Ellis of Orlando, FL and niece, Lynn Ellis Naretti of New York, NY.
Our family would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our friends and family, to the staff and nurses at Devotion Hospice, Pastor David Riley of Grace Family Fellowship in Willis, TX and to all of the wonderful friends and neighbors at Longmire on Lake Conroe.
Please join us in celebrating the life of Thomas Barry Calhoun, Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11:00am at Grace Family Fellowship, 12615 Cude Cemetery Road, Willis, TX 77318.

Locked away in my box of precious memories are the distant summers of youth, swimming in the lake behind the Calhoun house in Tallahassee. It was not safe and we probably should have had a better eye for the dangers in those waters. That's where Mr. Calhoun shined brightest. He allowed us to be boys and did his best to not interfere. However, he always had his eye on us and we were always safe. An incredible man and Father.
