With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Clarence Lewis Massey Jr., affectionately known to many as "Slug," who departed this life on July 27, 2025, just days shy of his 84th birthday.

Born on August 1, 1941, in Point Creek, West Virginia, Clarence lived a full and adventurous life marked by service, strength, and a deep love for the outdoors. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, he served his country with honor and carried that same sense of duty and integrity into every facet of his life.

Following his military service, Slug continued his commitment to protecting others by serving as a firefighter, a role he held with great pride. He later worked as a skilled pipefitter, a trade that showcased his hardworking spirit and dedication to his craft.

Slug made his home in Livingston, Texas, where he embraced the quiet beauty of rural life. An avid hunter and fisherman, Slug was always at peace in the woods or on the water. He had a lifelong love of motorcycles and treasured the freedom of the open road.

He had a deep affection for his dogs and found simple joy in their companionship. He also enjoyed kicking back with a cold Budweiser, especially in the company of family and friends.

Above all, Slug was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children: Darrell Massey and wife Dana of Livingston; Darbi Massey of Galveston; Danelle Massey of Spring; Duane Massey and wife Dalila of Livingston; and Dana Massey of Katy. He is also survived by his siblings: Richard Massey of Livingston and Debra Griffin and husband Gordon of Blooming Grove.

He leaves behind grandchildren: Darrell Massey Jr. and wife Kirsten, Aysia Garza and husband Donnell Alexander, Hannah Massey, Brittany Mattingly, Ryan Massey, Kristin Massey, Kara Massey, Paige Richardson and husband Remington, Carley Massey, Joseph Bitikifer and Breelyn Loeser, as well as seventeen great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory and spirit.

Slug was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Massey Sr. and Nell Blevins Massey; his beloved wife, Kim Springer Massey; his grandson, Kyle Massey; his great-granddaughter, Dream Alexander; and his sister, Cathy, and her husband, Bruce Kessinger.

He will be remembered for his strong spirit, adventurous soul, and unwavering love for his family. His stories, laughter, and steadfast presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Slug's life will be held on August 16, 2025 at 2:00PM, at 2157 Bracewell Cemetery Rd., Livingston, Texas.
