Thomas Alfred Calkins III
August 19, 1945 – August 28th, 2025
Thomas Alfred Calkins III, 80, of Troy, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Born on August 19, 1945, in Troy, he was the eldest child of the late Thomas Alfred Calkins Jr. and Marilyn Faith (Morse) Calkins.

Tom spent his entire life rooted in the Troy community, where he owned and operated Calkins Motor Sales, Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Jeep, for many years. Through his business, he developed countless friendships and connections that extended well beyond Troy.
On January 27, 1968, he married the love of his life, Janet Lula (Coston) Calkins, and together they shared 57 years of marriage. He also leaves behind his son, Thomas (Bonnie) Calkins IV of Troy, and daughter, Angela Calkins of Elmira, NY. He was a proud grandfather to Braden (Kayla) Calkins of Troy; Ethan (Paige) Calkins of Winchester, VA; Ashley Calkins of Cranberry Township, PA; and Payton Calkins of Elmira, NY. His greatest joy in recent years was becoming a great-grandfather to Kade Thomas Calkins, son of Braden and Kayla. He is also survived by younger sister Cheryl Hutter who continues to reside in Big Pond, PA, and sister-in-law Susan Calkins of Venice, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard "Dick" Calkins and his brother-in-law Joe Hutter.
Family was the heart of Tom's life. He was his children's and grandchildren's biggest supporter-attending their sporting events, traveling across the country with them, taking them on vacations, fishing, or simply enjoying breakfast and a drive together. His pride in them was unmatched, and he never missed an opportunity to share their accomplishments with others. Even after his grandchildren graduated, he continued cheering on the Troy Trojans, faithfully attending games and supporting the community's youth. A Trojan forever, Tom's loyalty and spirit never wavered.
A devoted Penn State football fan, Tom also cherished trips to Happy Valley for games over the years.
Tom believed in service to his community. He was a lifelong member of Lions Club International, where he received the prestigious Melvin Jones Award and was recognized for 50 consecutive years of perfect attendance. He gave selflessly through the Lions' philanthropic efforts and also served with numerous organizations, including the Armenia Debating Society, Pine Lodge Hunting Club, Trojan Booster Club, Troy Hospital Board, First Bank of Troy Board, and as longtime president of the Wheel Inn. He also volunteered as a Troy Little League baseball coach, passing on his love for sports to younger generations.
Tom will be remembered for his unwavering love for family, his dedication to Troy, his booming cheer from the sidelines, and his generous spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and community pride that will live on through all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at the Troy Sale Barn, 50 Ballard St., Troy, PA on October 25th starting at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's honor to the Troy Lions Club (Christmas Basket Program) or the Troy Trojan Booster Club. Tom's friends at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 1093 W Main St, Troy, PA are helping his family with arrangements.

Yesterday

God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. May God give you the needed comfort in the loss of Tom. I remember him from home but my latest memory is when he arrived in Minneapolis. I was in airline school at Humboldt University and he and others arrived. Blessings to all of you from the sunny state of California.
