Thomas Vehslage Carter, 79, of Nashville, Indiana, passed away at his home on October 5, 2025.
Born in Seymour, Indiana, Tom was the son of Travis J. Carter and Helene Vehslage Carter. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1965 and went on to earn his degree from Louisiana State University, where his adventurous spirit truly began to take shape.
Tom was the founder and owner of Real Time Concepts, a company he successfully operated for more than three decades. Known for his ingenuity, determination, and strong work ethic, he built a business that reflected his curiosity, creativity, and hands-on approach to solving problems. His leadership and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
An explorer at heart, Tom's love for adventure defined his youth both personally and professionally. In the 1960s, he hitchhiked between Seymour and Baton Rouge while attending school, setting the tone for the decades to follow. During the 1970s, his work and wanderlust carried him to Los Angeles, Montreal, Minneapolis, Raleigh, Philadelphia, Houston, San Juan, and New York City-each destination adding new stories and experiences to his journey. His travels continued into the 1980s, taking him to San Francisco and London, before he eventually returned home to Indiana, where he spent the rest of his day on the land he cherished most.
Outside of his career and travels, Tom found his greatest joy in nature. He loved spending time outdoors among the trees, working with his hands, and caring for his property, always accompanied by his loyal rescue dogs. Whether he was splitting firewood, fishing in his pond, or relaxing on the deck with a glass of Johnnie Walker Black while listening to Bob Dylan, Tom found fulfillment in life's simple pleasures and quiet moments.
Tom is survived by his wife, Cindy; his daughter, Julie; his brothers, Jim Carter, Bob Carter, and John Carter; his sisters, Jan Carter, Mary Carter, and Carol Carter; and his many beloved nieces and nephews - Craig Carter, Christy Carter LeBlanc, Travis D. Carter, Andrea Carter, Vincent Carter, Lewis Carter, and Rachael Carter.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Connie Carter, and his parents, Travis J. Carter and Helene Vehslage Carter.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 24, from 5- 7PM, at Voss & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services in Seymour, Indiana. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate a life well lived.
