Captain Thomas J. Catalanotto, Retired Merchant Mariner, 87, of Abbeville, husband of Judy Starre Catalonotto, died Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born June 4, 1938 in New Orleans, LA to the late Joseph Catalanotta and Mary Cacioppo Catalanotto.

A retired Captain from the Merchant Marines, he dedicated a significant part of his life to navigating the vast oceans, reflecting his deep commitment to the maritime industry. His journeys were marked by tales of courage and camaraderie, earning the respect of his peers and colleagues.

Captain Tom, as he was affectionately known, was a master carpenter and an exceptional woodworker. He was also known for his love of animals, gardening and fish ponds. An avid traveler, he embraced the world with open arms, collecting memories and experiences to share with family and friends.

Captain Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Judy, of the home; five children, Antoinette Marie Ledet of Metairie, LA, Tammy Marie Savoie of New Orleans, LA, Thomas Joseph Savoie, Jr. at Covington, LA, Terri Marie Savoie of New Orleans, LA and Troy Joseph Savoie of Mandeville, LA; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

No services will be held at this time.

He touched many lives through his work, hobbies, and friendships, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
