Thomas J. Cayer, 72, of Southington, CT, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2024 with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Virginia (Delahunty) Cayer for 49 years.
Thomas was born on July 17, 1952 in Southington, oldest of ten children, to the late Maurice L. and Margaret M. (Mulligan) Cayer.
Tom loved being outdoors and enjoyed hiking, kayaking and gardening. His family was his greatest joy.
In addition to his wife Ginny, Tom is survived by two children, son, Ryan Cayer and wife Meridith of Middletown, CT and daughter, Maureen Hodge and husband Eric of Watertown, MA and his four cherished grandchildren, Eamon, Charlie, Fiona and Calvin to whom he was affectionately known as “Gus”. He is also survived by nine siblings, Richard Cayer and wife Barbara of Bisbee, AZ; David Cayer and wife Cindy of Wolcott; Marguerite Maddalena and William Walsh of Portland; Edward Cayer and wife Lynn of Myrtle Beach, SC; Suzanne Cayer of Southington; Paul Cayer of Bristol; Jeanne Budarz and husband Mark of South Windsor; Douglas Cayer and wife Shane of Southington and Jeffrey Cayer and wife Jennifer of Lakeland, FL and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory may be made to the Whitney Marsh Foundation, to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research, education, and patient care to honor those affected by the disease (www.whitneysrace.org).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Plantsville Congregational Church, 109 Church St., Plantsville. Please meet directly at church. Calling hours will be held from 5-7p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
