Thomas was born in Elmira, New York on June 14, 1942, the first son of Joseph and Phyllis (Cook) Cecchini. At a very young age, along with younger brother Billy, Tom tended to the family business, a small grocery store attached to the family home known as Al-Jo Market. In 1961 Tom graduated Southside High School and moved to Flint Michigan to work at AC Spark Plug. There he met a cast of characters that would become lifelong friends. Together they found recreation in softball, bowling and cards. Two special friends were Doug Carr and Jack Smith, whose families became his family in Flint. Later in life many visits with friend Lloyd Bach brought solace when Tom was homebound.
On June 16,1973 Tom married Nora Schleicher to whom he dedicated his love and support. Nora cared for Tom his entire life and their marriage was an example for others. Together they had two children, Joseph, 51 of Davison and Janice, 48 of Flushing. Tom raised his children with steady and unwavering love. He accepted their spouses, Stefanie and Keith as his family and developed loving relationships with each. Tom had four grandchildren, Sam 23 of Corning NY, Isabella 21, Matteo 17 and Joey 15 all of Davison, who brought him great joy. He never missed an event, whether it be parties, sports or music. He spent many years travelling the midwest with them in search of a bargain. He loved taking them to casinos with pools, zoos and in search of the perfect soft-serve vanilla ice cream. Tom is preceded in death by his father Joseph, Mother Phyllis and Aunts Anna and Rose. He is survived by many family and friends, particularly his brother William and spouse Sue Cecchini, his Aunt Catherine Padgett and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The Smith family; Carol, Jason, Jessica and Zander and the many members of the Carr family whom he loved dearly. Many stories will be told about Tom's wonderful sense of humor and friendly manner. He will be missed.
