Thomas Eugene Chinander, affectionately known as Tom, passed away peacefully at his home in Nashville, TN, on March 25, 2025, after an extended illness. He was born on May 21, 1938, in Detroit, MI, and lived a life full of joy, adventure, and love.
At his passing, Tom was married to the love of his life, Rita. Their bond was one that weathered all storms, with Rita serving not only as a devoted wife but also as Tom's caregiver for over 20 years. Together, they shared a passion for traveling the world, creating countless memories that enriched their lives and the lives of those around them.
A man of remarkable spirit, Tom was known for his jovial personality and quick wit. He had a heart that overflowed with kindness and an infectious happiness that drew people in. Tom cherished the times spent cooking for his children when they were younger, believing that good food was an essential ingredient in the recipe of family love. His passion for fishing also led him to many serene moments by the water, reflecting on life’s simple pleasures.
Among his proudest accomplishments was owning a ranch where he raised cattle and horses. His favorite horse, Red Girl, stood as a symbol of the connection he had with nature and the joys of rural life. His proudest accomplishment of all, however, was meeting and marrying Rita, with whom he shared 43 wonderful years. Tom’s legacy extends beyond his tangible accomplishments; it lives on through his family, to whom he imparted lessons of love, kindness, and resilience.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Rita Chinander; his children: Jeff Chinander (Kelly), Donnie Chinander (Jennifer), Tammy Mina (J. Mina), and Gina Arizo Sosa (Leonel). His legacy continues through his nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his spirit within them. He is also remembered by his brother-in-law, Allen Edmonson, and sister-in-law, Jean Chinander.
While Tom will be dearly missed, he is reunited in peace with those who have gone before him, including his cherished grandson Trae, his sister Janice Edmonson, and his brother Daniel Chinander.
The impact Tom had on the lives of those who knew him is immeasurable, his laughter and love echoing in the hearts of his family and friends. He leaves behind a beautiful tapestry of memories that will be cherished for generations to come. Rest in peace, dear Tom, your journey continues in the love you shared and the lives you touched.
