Tommy passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025
He was born in Pensacola, Florida, and was the seventh child of Captain Sidney and Agnes (Lockwood) Clopton. He grew up with strong values that carried him throughout life: Catholic faith, hard work, family ties, and good humor. He was a caring and generous person. Tommy began his shrimping career at an early age under the guidance and influence of his father and brothers. He was the captain of several shrimp boats and owned the "Lady Agnes". Tommy served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was wounded, and was proud to have served his country. A favorite hobby of his was cast net fishing; catching those fresh mullet and having a family cook out. He repaired many cast nets not only for himself but also for many people. He enjoyed hunting with his friends, brothers, and many nephews. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with Loice at the casinos. He was a big fan of John Wayne and knew all of his movies. He loved his westerns. Tommy was a big man with a big heart and will be missed by many.
Tommy is preceded in death by former wife Henrietta Clopton, parents, Captain Sidney and Agnes (Lockwood) Clopton, brothers: Chipley, Sidney Jeff, and Jerry. Shortly after his death, his sister and sidekick Loice (Clopton) Jackson passed away.
He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Jackson (Tony) and Susie Benson (Jerry), along with seven grandchildren: Kourtney, Tristan, Aaron, Jordan, Matthew, Bethany and Nicole. Also, by five great-grandchildren: Ezra, Grant, Nolan, Kai, and Eloise. His sisters and brothers: Sheila Jernigan, Johnnie (Joyce) Clopton, Joyce (Franklin) Edgar, Gail (Vincent) Baglioni, David Clopton and Debbie. He has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will always remember him calling them "sugga booga" as his expression of love.
A visitation will be held 5:00-7:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 20, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home, Beverly Parkway, with a rosary to be prayed at 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John's Catholic Church on March 21st, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a burial service at Clopton's Cemetery on Davis Highway. A Celebration of Life reception, will follow at 3:00 p.m. at St Thomas More banquet hall, on Barrancas Ave.
Active pallbearers are Anthony Bosso, Dewayne Gafford, Shane Clopton, Brandon Bishop, Brett Jackson, Todd Fitzgerald, Logan Smith, Tony Jackson
Honorary pallbearers are John Hartley, Frank Patti, Bobby Morris, Skip Banfell, Ronnie Doyle and Bud Williams.
