Thomas Conway Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 29, 2026.
Thomas Allen Conway, age 79, died peacefully in his home in Newnan, Georgia, on January 16, 2026, his beloved wife, Ginny, by his side. Born on April 16, 1946, in Brownsville, Texas. Tom's life was a testimony of his faith in God and in his love for his fellow man.

Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Melba Odom Conway, his father, Wilmer Peyton Conway, his son, Timothy Edward Conway, and his brothers, Peyton, Gene, and Jim. His legacy lives on through his wife, Ginny, his children, Curtis Conway; Susan (Jeff) McCracken; John (Brandi) Conway; Jeff (Patricia) Bennett; Scott (Julie) Bennett; daughter-in-law, Carol (Tim) Conway; brother, Steve Conway; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of friends who were like family to him.

Following graduation from Brownsville High School in 1964, then dutifully serving in the United States Air Force, Tom put his shoulder to building a successful future, while concurrently furthering his education, earning a B.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley, Brownsville. His vocational path as a small business owner was admirable, and he often spoke fondly of his years as owner of A+B Muffler in Brownsville, Harlingen, and McAllen, Texas. With retirement on the horizon, Tom chose instead to enter a second career as the successful founder of Free Spirit Mobility in Greer, South Carolina.

Tom's faith in God was the cornerstone of his life. As an active member of Mill Creek Church, he continued to strengthen his faith and engage in genuine Christian fellowship. His hobbies and interests were wide-spread. From mowing his six-acre pasture with his father's vintage Ford tractor to curating an impressive collection of plane, train, and automobile memorabilia, to traveling the back roads of America with Ginny and their little pal "Charlie", Tom's zest for life made every adventure memorable.

Tom was the eternal optimist, his motto being: "failure is not an option". No small achievement for anyone, he planted and nurtured 50 October Glory Maples along the driveway of their country home, Peace Hill, creating a living legacy of vision and resolve. His and Ginny's home was a hub of warmth, laughter, and learning; he delighted in hosting his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, imparting life skills and sharing tales of his youth. A cup of coffee in one hand and a dessert in the other, Tommy most of all enjoyed weekly after-dinner visits with cherished neighbors.

As we bid farewell, we remember a man whose life was a beautiful tapestry. Tom's faith, his stories, his laughter, and his wisdom will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew him. He was the personification of the well-known quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. this is to have succeeded." Tom indeed succeeded in making countless lives breathe easier through his kindness and his generosity. Thomas Allen Conway's journey on this earth may have concluded, but his spirit remains an indelible part of the lives he touched.
