Dan Byrd, Sr., 92, entered into rest on the morning of Thursday, February 5, 2026.
Born on March 19, 1933, in Newnan, Georgia, Dan was the son of the late John Walter Byrd and Berta Jackson Byrd. Dan proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Private First Class. Following his military service, Dan continued serving his country through civil service at Robins Air Force Base, where he retired after a career in communications.
Dan was a man of deep faith and had a servant’s heart. He found joy in helping others and could repair just about anything. Dan loved his family and his church dearly, and both were central to his life.
In retirement, Dan remained active in service to others and served as head of security at the Museum of Aviation. His life of dedication and service will be remembered.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Byrd; five brothers, and one sister.
His memory will forever be treasured by his son, Dan Byrd, Jr.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Dan Byrd, Sr. will be laid to rest in the Parkway Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
