Thomas A. Curivan, 77, of Lakewood, N.J. passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Born
and raised in the Ironbound section of Newark, N.J., he was a longtime resident of Cedar Grove
before moving to Lakewood in 2020.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, friend, and proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a
member of Cedar Grove Unico, a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Cedar Grove,
and a member of the Men's Cornerstone Group.
Prior to retiring, he was a hairstylist and owner of Illusions Hair Salon in Upper Montclair for
over 45 years.
He was a man whose love for his family and friends knew no bounds, whose kindness touched
everyone he met, and whose stories and positive personality could light up even the darkest days.
He was also a man of incredible luck and generosity. He believed in showing up for the people
he loved and would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. He never hesitated
to lend a helping hand.
Above all else, Tom was a family man. His greatest joy in life was his son, daughter, and
grandchildren. He dedicated every moment to making sure they were safe, happy, and cared for.
Whether it was coaching their team sports, fishing or camping in Frost Valley, driving carpool to
and from school, fixing things around their houses, or simply sitting and sharing stories, he was
always present, always giving, and always loving. He had a gentle, kind soul. His warmth and
care made him a friend to all.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years,Grace (Merola) Curivan, his loving children,
Deena DeMaio and husband Michael and Thomas Curivan and wife Camille, adored
grandchildren Colton, Julian, Mason and Ainsley DeMaio, nieces and nephews, and a host of
other family and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. He was preceded in
death by his father Thomas Curivan and his mother Martha (Glazder) Curivan.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Tom lived a life full of love,
laughter, and purpose. His legacy of kindness and selflessness will live on in all who knew him.
Rest easy, Tom. Your love and light will never fade.
The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, March 30, 2025, 2 – 6 p.m. at Shook's
Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Avenue, Cedar Grove. A funeral service is planned
for Monday, March, 31, 2025, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at
Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair.
