Tom DeLeone was born and raised in Kent. The youngest of three children, he attended Kent Roosevelt High School then went on to become an All-American football player at The Ohio State University. In 1972 he was drafted in the 5th round by the Cincinnati Bengals. After a brief stint with the Bengals, Tom spent the remainder of his stellar 13-year NFL career as the center for the Cleveland Browns. During his long career Tom earned numerous athletic honors: The NFL's George Halas Award for Courage in 1976; selected to play in the Pro-Bowl in 1979 and 1980; two-time all-Big Ten Conference selection, team MVP, first team All-American, named to The Ohio State All Century Team and inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002; he was inducted into the Cleveland Browns Hall of Legends in 2011. After retiring from football, Tom was a US Customs Special Agent and worked in conjunction with the FBI, Homeland Security and ICE antiterrorism task forces. In 2007 he retired for the second time after 23 years of service. Tom was a devoted husband and father and believed strongly in giving back to the community. As a long time Park City High School football coach, a volunteer substitute in the Park City school system and a volunteer at the Park City hospital he touched the lives of many people and had a very positive influence on everyone he met especially our youth. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mindy; their three children: daughter, Rachel, her husband Logan DeWitt, grandchildren Wesley), Khloe; sons, Dean and Kent; sister, Jane Yoffe; sister-in-law, Willie; and many nieces and nephews. May he rest in peace. Visitation will take place at the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center on Friday, May 27th from 5:00 P.M – 8:00 P.M. where funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 28th from at 9:00 A.M. Deleone Family,
My deepest condolences to you. Tom was my Field Training Officer when I first got to Salt Lake City with US Customs/ICE. His wit and humor and guidance are all things I hold fast to and have guided my career. May God grant you peace during your time of grief.

To Tom,
I will never forget the brief time I knew you--and the good times we had together. From working with you, Stan White, and Tom Campana at the rubber company in Cuyahoga Falls--and you all giving me a ride home from work everyday--then you and I teamed up to beat Tom and Stan in basketball at my house. The ride you gave me in your brother's Olds Toronado was exhilirating--to say the least. And the snorkeling experience that none of us ever had because the lake was so dirty. I remember going to the OSU Rose Bowl party with all of you after OSU whipped USC and OJ. And on my final OSU recruiting visit when I stayed in your dorm room--and you made the statement/question "You are going to Michigan State-aren't you!?" I never made it to "the big time"--like you-- because of a spinal cord injury. But when I called and left a message while you were playing for the Browns--you returned my call. You have led the type of life to which all of us can only truly aspire to live up to. You were a fantastic friend to me, as I am sure you were to all people who knew you.
I just had open heart surgery, and my time here is growing shorter. I hope that when it comes time for me to make the transition, that we will see each other once again.

Mindy and Family,
Our prayers go out to you in this very difficult time. Tom had great compassion for everybody he met. His loss was great and he will be missed by many. Tom gave me a autograph football after the Houston play off game. I still have it and will cherish it always with memories of his friendship.

Tom was a class act and always a friendly guy. I was 1 year behind his class at Kent Roosevelt. I will always remember those great teams that went 10-0 in '66 and 9-1 the following year. I first met Tom playing little league baseball in Kent. He never let success go to his head and was always a gentleman. My condolences to his family. Peace be with you, Tom...You will be missed...

Mindy and family,
It was with great sadness that we learned of Tom's passing. It was always a treat to talk with Tom whether at the Dorman's for dinner, at the hospital when he was volunteering or at the high school football field. He would always ask about Zach and how his football kicking was going and how Kailey was doing at school and in her job in Chicago. He took such a personal interest in all our family members and we will missing being able to talk football with him. Please know that although we cannot be there in person at his funeral service, our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

Love,
Jean, Charlie, Kailey and Zach Slusher
