Thomas V. "Pop" Devaney, Sr., 85, of Carteret passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick.
Born in Jersey City, Tom resided in Carteret for 60 years and honorably served in the United States Marine Corp. He was later employed as a plumber with Plumbers Local Union #14 in Lodi, NJ, retiring after 30 years of service. Tom was a member of various groups including Carteret Elks Lodge 2235, Fr. Carey Council Knights of Columbus, Carteret American Legion Post 46 and also served as an usher at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Carteret. He will be remembered as the #1 family man to many, had a strong connection with his faith and was proud of his American Irish heritage. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother who will be deeply missed.
Tom was predeceased by his wife of 51 years in 2012, Margaret M. Devaney; his parents, Joseph and Helen Devaney along with five siblings. Surviving are his children, Lenore Bodnar with her husband Alan, Joan Muzzio with her husband Robert M., Thomas V. Devaney, Jr. with his wife Mary and Peggy Carnevale with her husband Philip; grandchildren, Stephen, Matthew with his wife Stephanie, Vincent, Robert, Zachary, Joseph, Kelly, Brianna, Thomas, Kyle with his wife Nicole, Joseph, Thomas, Gianna, Philip with his wife Elizabeth, Cassandra and Gabriella; great grandchildren, Robert W., Jr., Nolan, Marlene Rose, Bradley, Angelina and Adrianna along with his sister Patricia Cox with her husband Raymond. Also surviving are many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will begin at 9:30am on Monday, April 15, 2024 from CHUBENKO FUNERAL HOME, 625 Port Reading Avenue, Port Reading followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Carteret. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April14, 2024 from 2pm to 6pm at the funeral home.
