Thomas J. Dolak, age 89, of Erie, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at home of natural causes. He was born September 25, 1935 in Erie, the son of the late Andrew Dolak II and Sophie (Markiewicz) Bolla.
A lifelong resident of Erie, Tom enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He retired from Johnson Controls in 1997 after 41 years as a maintenance supervisor, and was a parishioner at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
Tom’s greatest joy was sharing in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was Boy Scout Cubmaster for his sons, and enjoyed many hobbies including fast-pitch softball, golf, bird-watching, fishing, wood-working, swimming, and walking at the mall.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Dolak III and his sister, Mary Ann Dolak.
Tom is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Jo (Klakamp) Dolak; his sons Thomas Jr. (Nora) of Erie and Gregory (Katrina) of Williamsburg, VA; and his daughter, Heidi Fitzsimmons (Art) of Erie. He is the grandfather of Rose, Patrick, Maggie, Cameron (Jennifer), Taylor (Reina), Parker, Audrey, and Alexis. He is also survived by his great-grandson Samson Dolak, sister-in-law Phyllis Zimmer, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the Burton Quinn Scott Funeral Home, 3801 W.26th St. on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 3:00pm until 6:00pm. Further visiting on Saturday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 2401 W.38th St. from 9:00am until 10:00am, at which time a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
