With a slight smile on his face Thomas Walter Domin, known to the world as "Tommy," took his last breath in the morning of July 14, 2024. At the sprightly age of 75, in the sunny embrace of Sun City, Florida, Tommy entered into eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and a trail of cookie crumbs.
Born on the 5th of September, 1948, in the city of Chicago, Tommy never missed a beat. From his early days at Our Lady of Grace to his teenage antics at Lane Tech and Kelvyn Park High Schools, he was the life of the classroom party.
Tommy wore his patriotism on his sleeve-quite literally-as he donned the Army uniform and served during the Vietnam War. He traded his military boots for a semi truck and steel toed work boots for nearly 20 years at the Pride Container Corporation. He then moved on to state service and clocked in over 25 years with the State of Illinois, reigning as the uncontested supervisor (Lead Lead Worker) of the IDOT District Bridge office in Elk Grove Village.
Our Tommy was a man of many hats-sometimes a baseball cap as he coached little league and served as President of the South Elm Baseball League other times a board member's hat as a two-term (1987-1995) school board trustee for Elmwood Park Community Unity School District 401. But the hat he wore best was that of a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Tommy's zest for life was evident in his love for boating, sports, and card games. He was often the life of the party, with a dance move for every occasion, a fondness for cookies and milk that was endearing to all, and his love for the casino's bright lights was only ever outshone by his love for his family. His laughter was infectious, and his presence was a comfort to friends and family alike.
Tommy is survived by his fan club: daughter Hollie Ann Miller, son Thomas E. Domin, daughter-in-law Dana Domin, son-in-law Lamont Miller, granddaughters Jessica Mendez and Vanessa Miller, sister Barbara Johnson (Hank), brothers Michael Domin (Linda) and Edward Domin Jr., as well as his ex-wife and lifelong friend Diane Maraviglia, numerous nieces and nephews and beloved grand pups. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Edward L Domin and June M Domin.
A private cremation ceremony will take place at sea, honoring Tommy's wishes. Arrangements are entrusted to Serenity Meadows in Riverview, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Shriners Hospital for Children, Wounded Warrior Project, and/or the Tunnels to Towers Foundation organizations that Tommy held close to his heart.
Tommy's legacy of love, laughter, and service will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
