Tom enjoyed camping, especially when his children were young, traveling around West Virginia and the eastern United States. Tom briefly served as leader of a 4-H Club on Bunner Ridge. He served as electrician and president of the Winfield District Fair and was a life- long rail fan. He and his wife took train excursions in West Virginia, Ohio, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and from Fort William to Malaig Scotland. Tom designed and built both houses the family owned, the current house being an earth sheltered or underground house. Tom had collected HO scale trains for over thirty years. He enjoyed building and rebuilding a multilevel train layout, sharing it with grandsons and great-grandsons. Most of the train collection will go to these young men and boys.
The family will honor his request for no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bunner Ridge VFD, Prickett's Fort Memorial Foundation, RR 3, Box 407, Fairmont, or to your favorite charity.
The family would like to thank Monongalia General Hospital and the Cardiologists at Morgantown Internal Medicine Group for the care and treatment over the years making it possible for Tom to enjoy life while coping with his heart condition. In 2006 the doctors could do no more to improve his quality of life, the decision was made to enter Hospice Care, Tom was discharged from hospice in early 2011. We also want to thank, Dr. Lloyd Kurth of Mountainstate Orthopedic Associates for repairing Tom's broken hip, we know he did his best to get Tom through this most recent problem. Thank you also to the staff at Pierpont Center for the care they gave him in his last days and the support they gave his family.
Tom's family would like to give a special thank you to the Pharmacy Department of Fairmont Wal-Mart for going beyond "just doing their job" over the years. They were part of Tom's health team and a caring support group. Tom was most thankful he got to hear Mr. Campbell pay the pipes.
