Santa Maria - Thomas W. Dougherty (Watson), 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cambridge, OH, on May 12, 1938, Watson was the eldest of three children born to Joseph and Ruth Dougherty. He spent his formative years in various countries due to his father 's diplomatic career, fostering a deep appreciation for diverse cultures.

Drawn to the sciences from a young age, Watson pursued his academic interests at Drake, Johns Hopkins University, UCLA, and UCSB. He embarked on a fulfilling career, initially working for Douglas, Ling Temco Vought, Chrysler's Space Division, where he specialized in trajectory and payload analysis, Thiokol, and later, as a civil servant in the U.S. Space Program.

In 1973, Watson married Sherylee Gunter. Together, they raised three children, Stephanie, Mark, and Tad, fostering a close-knit family bond that endured through the years.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Watson found joy in photography, astronomy, and exploring new destinations. He cherished moments spent socializing at the 'A-Street Caf', savoring treats at the 'Golden Donut', and actively participating in community events such as Chamber of Commerce mixers and gatherings at Pathways Church as well as Life Way Fellowship Church.

Watson is survived by Shery Dougherty, his children, grandchildren, and sisters. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents.
