Thomas A. Dube, 63, passed from this life on Thursday, September 19, 2024 surrounded by the mighty embrace of his loving family. Tom was born on May 31, 1961 in Haverhill, MA, the son of George H. Dube, Jr., and Josephine B. (Poull) Dube.
In 1979 Tom began working for Lewis Builders in Atkinson, NH, an experience that inspired him and served as the foundation for his life's work. In 1989, Tom founded Dube Plus Construction. In the 35 years since, Tom grew Dube Plus into one of NH's premier residential and commercial construction firms. Beyond the lumber, concrete, construction and heavy equipment, what mattered most to Tom were the people he worked with. Over the years, he and his team earned numerous prestigious awards from the New Hampshire Home Builders Association. Tom was an earth moving expert and his love of working with dirt led to the creation of Dirt Pro Excavation in 2002. Tom was in his glory when he had the chance to operate any heavy equipment or construction vehicle.
As a leader, Tom excelled at forging meaningful relationships with both his employees and clients. He embodied hard work, integrity, fairness, and honesty. He was generous with his time and wisdom. Rarely seen without a smile, Tom believed that "fun" was something everyone should experience daily. His playful demeanor permeated his ability to always "get it done" with a positive attitude. His philosophy, "Blame no one. Expect nothing. Do something. Be happy" guided him.
Tom met the love of his life, Susie, when he walked into Hayes Real Estate in 2003. Not one to take no for an answer, Tom's charm and persistence won Susie over, and they began their amazing adventure together. On a brilliant July day in 2012, Tom and Susie married at their treasured Cabby at Witchview, overlooking 360 degrees of mountains and lakes.
Making their home in Wakefield, Tom and Susie embraced life to the fullest, surrounding themselves with family and friends. Tom's enthusiasm for life, boundless energy, and mischievous spirit took them on endless adventures. Nothing was too difficult, distant, or out of reach for Tom. Side by side, they created beautiful homes, traveled endless miles, and formed priceless memories. Tom and Susie established their annual "Summer Party" at their mountaintop Cabby, which drew together the Dube and Hayes clans along with masses of friends for a day of pure fun, fantastic food, games and live music, where everyone was encouraged to "put the world away for a minute."
Along with working seven days a week, managing his farm, tearing up golf courses, and enjoying time with his family, Tom formed a strong bond with the Town of Wakefield. He quickly immersed himself in working and volunteering for his beloved adopted hometown, including his work with the Planning Board, Chamber of Commerce, Wakefield Pride Day, Wakefield Resource Center, Seven Lakes Snowmobile Club, and most recently, Wakefield's historic 250th birthday celebration. Tom faithfully supported local organizations, including Wakefield's Lions Club, Parks and Recreation, the Greater Wakefield Food Pantry, and multiple municipal projects from playgrounds to historic dams. Tom loved Wakefield, and Wakefield loved him back.
Above all, family was everything to Tom, and he was everything to them. He was his children's mentor, biggest fan, teammate, teacher, and role model in all aspects of their lives. He was devoted to his role as husband, father, grandfather "Pep", brother, son, and uncle. Tom loved his family with passion and conviction. His faith, optimism, and strength of body and spirit were unparalleled. Tom adored Susie, and he cherished their life together. In addition to Susie, Tom is survived by his loving children Brittany DeVitto and her husband Johnny; son Eric Dube; and grandchildren JD, Brook, and Bella DeVitto, who filled his arms and home with laughter, love, and extreme happiness. Tom also leaves his father, George Dube, sisters Donna Manning and her husband David, Julie Lockard and her husband Brian, Laurie Huberdeau and her husband Ken, brother Rick Dube and his wife Joyce, and Brian Dube and his wife Kellie. Tom leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and countless friends and associates. Tom was predeceased by his mother, Josephine.
Tom's life will be celebrated at Cabby, his most cherished spot in the world, on Sunday, October 13, beginning at 1:00pm. All are welcome to attend. Please wear something white in honor of Tom's favorite color.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please make a heartfelt commitment to make someone happy, help somebody out and above all else; be humble, kind and remember to always smile.
