Thomas W. Edwards Jr., 84 of Georgetown, South Carolina passed away on November 9, 2024, surrounded by two of his children at the Lowcountry Community Hospice House.
Mr. Edwards was born on August 15, 1940, in Marion, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Thomas W Edwards Sr. and Octavia Edwards.
Tommy was a pilar of strength, service, and commitment to both his family and his community. In high school, he was the captain of the basketball team, he was class President, President of Beta Club, and actively involved in school. He graduated from Baptist College and received his master's in Public Administration from Central Michigan University. Mr. Edwards began his career as the Newberry City Manager, where he served for 2 years. He then began his exemplary service to Florence, South Carolina. He served Florence as City Manager and did so for 30 years. He then transitioned to County Administrator of Florence County and was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by the governor of South Carolina. In 1998, he accepted the position as County Administrator for Georgetown County. His service was recognized with many honors. In 2004, he and his staff received the All-American City Award for Georgetown, South Carolina, a first for the city. He also received the Paul Harris Fellow for his many years with the Rotary club as member and President. He was distinguished as President of the Charleston Jaycees, and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. He was given the key to the city by the Mayor of Florence in 1995. In 2009, Georgetown County opened its new terminal and runway extension at the Georgetown airport and named it in his honor as the Thomas W. Edwards Jr. Terminal. He served the citizens of South Carolina in municipal and county government for 35 years.
In his retirement, he continued to enjoy his greatest passions. An avid fisherman, he especially loved deep sea fishing with his family. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends. He loved gardening, and his beloved dachshund, Maggie. He enjoyed seeing his 10 grandchildren at every opportunity.
Left to cherish his precious memories are his wife Linda Fulton Edwards of Georgetown, South Carolina; children Stephanie Edwards Hall (Stan) of Charleston, Brian Edwards (Jennie) of Florence, Thomas W Edwards III (Grace) of Charleston, and Karen Edwards (Rob) of Charleston; grandchildren Myers Horecky, Fulton Horecky, Carter Anne Hall, Mack Hall, Carlisle Edwards, Evelyn Edwards, Vivian Edwards, Eleanor Bliss Edwards, Genevieve Edwards and Caroline Rhett. His memory will live on in the lives of his family, friends, and all those he impacted with his kindness, guidance, and generosity. He will remain forever in the hearts of those he touched.
A memorial service will be held at Georgetown Presbyterian Church on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 3:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Charleston Animal Society.

I shared the love he had for his beautiful dog Maggie. She would always run to me whenever she saw me and he would smile from ear to ear. After playing with her for a few moments he would tell Maggie "dance for her Maggie" or say to me " that dog loves you". I will greatly miss them both, he was a wonderful person with a kind, caring soul. My deepest sympathy to his family
