Thomas Doyle Englert, 92, of Owensboro, died January 20th, 2026. Tom was born on December 29th, 1933, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to the late Hilary Joseph and Caroline Elenora “Carrie” (Hayden) Englert.
Tom graduated from St. Frances Academy in 1951. A veteran of the Korean War, he served four years in the United States Air Force. Upon returning home, he graduated from Brescia College in 1960. Retiring from General Electric after 25 years, Tom enjoyed spending time with family and friends, volunteering, cooking, woodworking, creating folk art, spiritual pursuits, and his Catholic faith.
He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Rita “Marita” Mattingly Englert; infant son, Thomas D. Englert Jr.; son Gregory A. Englert Sr.; brothers, Hilary Englert Jr., Gene Englert, Joe Englert, and Robert Englert; and sisters, Lilly Wilson, Betty Tichenor, and Martha Thompson.
Those left to follow in his example of love and compassion include his children, J. Eric Englert (Chris) and Donna M. Englert Ferguson (Jeff); grandchildren, Holly A. Ferguson Powers (Brad) and Gregory A. Englert Jr.; great-grandchildren, Kaytlin Powers Nash (Dale), Elizabeth Goodman, and Taylor Powers; brother Jack Englert (Joy); daughter-in-law, Karen L. Englert; sisters-in-law Joan Marret Englert and Margaret Mattingly Coleman; Marita and Tom’s goddaughter Roshine “Nirvvane” McVitie, and many cherished family members and friends.
Tom’s remains will be interred beside his wife at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery at a later date. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no memorial service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to: Carmel Home, 2501 Old Hartford Rd, Owensboro, KY 42303. Tom was a resident of the Carmel Home for seven years, and the family is ever grateful for the warmhearted care he received there.
