Thomas D. Ferguson passed away on January 22, 2026, in Hiawatha. Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, from 9:00 am until the 11:00 am Memorial Service at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids. Interment will be at a later date
He was born on November 7, 1943, in Benton County, IA to Glenn and Gladys (Owens) Ferguson. He was one of twelve children growing up in a large family shaped his life-long appreciation for togetherness, hard work and storytellingâ€"qualities that stayed with him throughout his life. Tom dedicated 25 years of his career to working with the Railroad, a job that reflected his strong work ethic and reliability. Away from work, he was happiest working with his hands. He was an expert at refinishing antique furniture and spent countless hours tinkering in his garage, where he could often be found repairing broken or discarded items and giving them new life. He was also known as an expert walnut cracker, a skill that family and friends fondly remember. Tom and his beloved wife Patricia shared many treasured moments at their vacation home in DeSoto, WI, where they enjoyed fishing in the Mississippi River for Bluegills.

He had a daughter Jennifer and four grandsons. Tom’s greatest joy came from time spent with his family, especially his grandsons and great-grandchildren, whom he adored. Tom was known for his great laugh and his love for storytelling, He brought warmth and joy to every gathering. Spending time with family and friends meant everything to him, and those moments brought him immense happiness. He will be remembered for his craftmanship, his humor and a deep love for his people in his life. Tom was a member of the Buffalo United Methodist Church.
