Thomas Patrick "Tom" Fitzgerald

Thomas Patrick Fitzgerald, 42, of Saint Albans, VT passed away peacefully after a 19-year battle with brain cancer. Since his diagnosis in 2007, he has been a warrior through the surgeries and treatments at UVM Medical Center, Tufts Medical Center and Dana Farber. With the help and encouragement from the Drs and staff at these facilities he went beyond the 5-year diagnosis that he was first given.

On June 2, 1983, Edward and Caroline Fitzgerald welcomed Thomas to the world. He lived an active and happy childhood with his two brothers, Michael and Edward. Spending much of their summers in Cape Cod with his extended family. Tom attended St. Albans City School and then BFA St. Albans, playing hockey and baseball for the Bobwhites. He studied at and played hockey for Nichols College, graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor's degree in Science in Business Administration. After college he worked for TD Bank for a short period of time before working as a successful salesman for Crystal Rock and then WB Mason. As his disease progressed and changed, Tom adjusted his career path and continued working in different capacities, always with the purpose of supporting his family and setting a strong example for his children.

Tom met his wife, Angie (Chevalier) Fitzgerald in 2004. They married on September 20, 2008, and had three beautiful children, Braelyn, Caragh and Declan.

Tom was a natural athlete and enjoyed playing almost any sport, especially hockey and golf. He also enjoyed hiking, fishing, doing yard work and laughing with his close friends and family. Tom had special relationships with each of his children. He was grateful to be able to coach and watch his daughters play hockey and play ball and watch hockey with his son. Most of all, he was proud of the amazing humans they had become and will continue to be.

Tom's family will receive family and friends on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 23rd at 11:00 AM at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton, with the Reverend Father James Dodson as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, contribution for his children's education may be sent to Angela Fitzgerald, 8 Ridgeview Avenue, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
