Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home - Sanford on Dec. 4, 2025.
Thomas Wayne Flynn ("Mousie") departed this life on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, to enter eternity with his Lord, surrounded by his loving family. Wayne was born December 1, 1940, to the late Thomas Thurman Flynn and Edith Hall Flynn.
Wayne was a graduate of the Class of 1959 at Greenwood High School in Lemon Springs, NC. After graduation, he went on to become a mechanic specializing in transmission rebuilds, motor repairs, and diesel mechanics. He retired from Clay Moretz Electrical Service after many years as a diesel mechanic.
Wayne was well known throughout North Carolina for his mechanical talents and his helping hand to others in need of car repairs. He became lovingly known as "The Transmission Man." There was never a time when our dad was out and about-even on vacations out of state-when he wouldn't encounter someone who recognized him and say, "That's Mr. Flynn. He worked on many cars for me and rebuilt a motor or transmission for a car or truck I owned."
Wayne is survived by his five children: Wanda Gattis (Alfred) of the home; Sharon Mulhall (Rich) of Ontario, CA; David Flynn (April) of Little River, SC; Toyna Carlyle of
Sanford, NC; and Sonya Grissom (Bill) of Sherman, Texas. He is also survived by his baby brother, Roy Flynn (Kathy) of
Sanford, NC. He was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Flynn Stanley, and his brother, Nelson Ray Flynn.
He leaves behind his grandchildren-Carleigh, Cameron, Heather, Jacob, Tyler, Matthew, and William-in addition to six great-grandchildren, as well as many nephews who spent time with him and cherished him deeply.
He also leaves behind his best friend and fur baby, Maggie.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Lemon Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family wishes to thank his in-home caregivers, Lovie Hobgood and Linda Grissom, as well as the nursing team with First Health Hospice, including nurse Lorie Neal and special CNA Teco. Our dad was treated with compassion, love, and great care, along with dignity and respect throughout his journey.
Wayne's children give a special thank-you to their son-in-law, Alfred, who took such good care of our dad in our home and ensured he could enjoy many wonderful vacations. Alfred always made sure our dad had mobility assistance, transportation, and the care he needed. Many treasured memories of fishing, camping, and traveling were made possible because of Alfred. Without him, our dad would never have been able to experience the vacations with his family that he so well deserved.
Our dad was a man of great strength, knowledge, and wisdom. He loved talking with people and never met a stranger. Our dad's hands tell the story of hard work and deep love for his family.
Go rest high on that mountain, Daddy. Your work here on earth is done. Rest with the father and the Son.
