THOMAS JEFFERSON FOXX JR. September 23, 1948 -May 6, 2025 Mr. Thomas Jefferson Foxx, Jr. was born September 23, 1948, in Fort Pierce, Florida, to Mr. Thomas J. Foxx Sr. and Mrs. Emma Foxx. He was the oldest of four children. Mr. Foxx attended the public schools of Fort Pierce, Florida, which were segregated. In his senior year of high school, he was selected to be the first black student to attend the previously segregated Dan McCarty High School. During that year, he spent half the day in electronics and math courses and the afternoon in Lincoln Park Academy, the all-black high school. In 1966, as Vice President of his class, he graduated with honors from Lincoln Park Academy. Mr. Foxx was offered a partial scholarship to attend Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU). He enrolled in the fall of 1966, majoring in Engineering Science. In 1970, Mr. Foxx was drafted into the United States Army. He completed Basic Training, Leadership School and Military Police School in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was also assigned to a Military Police Unit in Long Binh, Vietnam, and completed his tour in Vietnam and earned a Bronze Star and Unit Citation for service and bravery. In 1972, he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant and returned to Tallahassee. Following his return, he graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and a minor in mathematics and engineering science. He was later inducted into the FAMU Hall of Fame for maintaining a 4.0 average in Physics and Math. Mr. Foxx has been employed as a weapons physicist, Management Analyst, Regulatory Coordinator, Senior Fuel Coordinator and Power Generation Business Unit Leader II for Florida Power and Light. In 2001, Mr. Foxx became employed with the Strategic Planning and Fuel Management department of Gainesville Regional Utilities. In October 2005, he became the first Black-American manager at a GRU power plant. He worked at the 4,000 acre, Deerhaven Generating Station. Upon retirement, he was honored with a commendation for his service to the city of Gainesville. Mr. Foxx was an avid reader and lover of jazz music. He enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, and working on classic cars. Mr. Foxx was preceded in death by his sister Cheryl Foxx, sister-in-law Betty Bouie, brother-in-law Robert Bouie, sister-in-law Katie Ann Bronson (Andes Bronson), sister-in-law Beatrice Chambers (Richard Chambers), sister-in -law Johnnie Mae Bouie, and son-in-law Keith Newman. Mr. Foxx is survived by his high school sweetheart, Mrs. Hazel Bouie Foxx of Ft Pierce, Florida. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage. He is survived by his children LaShandri M. Foxx-Newman, Marcus T. Foxx (Nadia Foxx), and Thomas Jefferson Foxx III (Brittaney Foxx). Mr. Foxx has one godchild, Cheri Glynn. He is also survived by his siblings Derek M. Foxx (Deborah Foxx) and Virginia Foxx. Also left to cherish his memories are his sister-in-law Carolyn Lee (Winifred Lee), sister-in-law Laura Bouie, and brother-in-law James Bouie. Mr. Foxx recently welcomed his first grandchild Ava Olivia Foxx. Thomas J. Foxx Jr. is also remembered and cherished by many cousins, nephews, and nieces
