Thomas C Freeny
Brandon, MS
Thomas (Tom) Clinton Freeny was born on May 16, 1943 and died on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at St. Dominic Hospital.
Visitation is 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Freeny Community Church. Services are 1:00 pm at Freeny Community Church with Rev. Bill Buckley and Doug Hiser officiating. Interment is in Shockalo Cemetery. Wilcox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Tom was the youngest son of Harvey Lacy and Callie Wardean (Bridges) Freeny. He grew up in the community of Freeny, Mississippi and graduated from Carthage High School. He attended Draughn's Business College in Jackson, Mississippi while living in a boarding house, which was formerly Two Sisters Cafe on Congress Street. He married Linda Faye (Gardner) Freeny on May 29, 1965. They were married 59 and a half years.
Tom worked with Michael Baker Engineering as a rod man and helped survey the Ross Barnett Reservoir. In 1967, he and Linda moved to Rankin County to open Pelahatchie Bay Trading Post on the Reservoir. They owned and operated the business until 1982. They also owned an amusement business called Tom Freeny Video Games. After selling both businesses, he opened and operated 25 Tractor and Implement where he sold tractors and farm equipment. He then went into sales and worked for Lely Farm Equipment and Nichols Tillage Tools. Tom ventured into real estate, developing Virginia Valley subdivision and other residential real estate investments in Georgia and Mississippi.
Tom was an avid reader, hunter, and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening and spending time at his cabin in the woods. Throughout his life, he was a member of The Lions Club where he and his family hosted several exchange students. His CB handle name was "Baitman" at Holly Bush Hunting Club. He served on The Rankin County School Board and was a Freemason. He just received a 50-year pin at Tyrian Lodge, Brandon, Mississippi. He loved his church family and was a lifelong Methodist. He attended Fannin Global Methodist Church where he served for many years as President of the Men's Club and on the church cemetery committee. He was also a Board member of his church.
He had three children: Thomas Scott (Scotty) Freeny, married to Alecia Garner of Carthage, Misssissippi; Randall Lacy Freeny, married to John Johnson of Southaven, Mississippi; and Linda Lea Freeny Browne, married to David Browne of Jackson, Mississippi. He had four grandchildren: Seth Morgan Freeny, Cedar Kingsbury Browne, Allegra Hope Browne and Sperrin Thomas Browne. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Rebecca Dolores Freeny Serio, Paul Edward Freeny, James Lacy Freeny and his first-born grandson Kaleb Scott Freeny.
In lieu of flowers, Tom wanted people to donate to his church, Fannin Global Methodist Church in Brandon, Mississippi or Freeny Community Church, in Carthage, Mississippi.

Tom and Linda have been my friends for many years. From the time I meet them, they have been great role models for me. And all the special memories with Mr. Tom and all of his conversations with me (even the long ones) I will treasure. He was a great listener and always had the best advise. We will all miss you.
Love, Angela, Kenny and Jasmine
