Thomas J. (Tom) Gaffney, 58, a Hanford resident passed unexpectedly on Monday, February 5, 2024.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 2 to 6 pm in the Whitehurst McNamara Funeral Home 200 Bush Street Hanford. The funeral service will be held the same day at 6 pm in the funeral home.
Tom was born on September 27, 1966 to the late Frank Gaffney and his surviving mother Son Ho Slack in Seoul, South Korea. Tom grew up primarily in Linden, New Jersey. He graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy in Pines Beach, New Jersey in 1984.
Tom attended the United States Naval Academy and graduated in 1988 with a degree in electrical engineering. Tom was a Navy veteran who served from 1984 to 1995.
After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for PepsiCo in Salt Lake City, Utah for 2 years. He moved to the Central Valley and worked for the J.G. Boswell Company and lived in Hanford from September 1997 till his passing.
Tom will be remembered for his strong work ethic, indomitable spirit, and his hidden warmness. He was known to take care of his employees and his hidden kindness was displayed in his treatment of stray cats throughout the J. G. Boswell Company gins. He loved to read, travel, and watch baseball. His office is filled with the many books he read, mementos and pictures from his travels, and his collection of baseball memorabilia. Late in his life he developed an interest in whiskey and began to drink and collect various whiskeys from around the world.
He was the beloved father of Ken Gaffney and a beloved husband to his wife Naomi Gaffney. Loving brother to Patricia Gaffney and son to his surviving mother Son Ho Slack. He will be greatly missed by all.

I had the honor of being a co-worker with him. He was an extremely talented leader and just an overall great man. His passing came far too soon but I'm certain he is already busy handling things in Heaven. May the Lord comfort his family and those lucky enough to have met him. Rest in peace Tom. We'll see you on the other side

Sorry to hear of Toms passing. Tom was such a good guy to work with over the many years. Loved his easy going demeanor. I would make sure to take Tom, David and Rudy out for dinner when I traveled through Fresno. He will be missed.

I remember your smile when you came to interview at Boswell. I watched Ken while you interviewed. He was quite the character and his free spirit resonated. As I worked with you through the years, I saw that same free spirit in you. You will be missed. May your memory comfort those you left behind.
