Thomas Gallahan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hall Funeral Home - Purcellville on May 1, 2025.
Thomas (Tom) Gallahan was born December 24, 1934, in Neersville, VA. Tom's mother was preparing the turkey for Christmas dinner, went into labor and delivered Tom at home. He was one of 13 children (12 boys, 1 girl). He is survived by two brothers; Walter Gallahan and Clarence Gallahan.
Tom married the love of his life in 1957, Mary Lou Gallahan and was happily married to her for almost 53 years when she predeceased him on December 31, 2009.
Tom was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in June 1956. After that he received a promising job at Safeway (food store) and went on to have a successful career at Grand Union for 36 years, retiring as an Executive Vice President in 1985.
Tom is survived by his son, Phillip Gallahan, and daughters Jacqueline Maresch, Kathleen Carlisle and Kelly Pulliam. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Tom was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Damascus Md, and he was a member of the Knights Templar as a Master Mason at the Masonic Lodge.
Tom will be lovingly remembered for his love and devotion to family, his love of music (he played the violin and loved to dance), and was a long-time fan of the Washington Redskins.

My Uncle Tom was an amazing man. Gentle yet strong. I would see him every few years when I travelled from Phoenix to DC. He learned to play the violin late in life and would play for me and my wife when we visited. I would call him over the years to see how he was doing and talk about the Redskins. He loved my aunt with all his heart and was a great uncle. He was a marine and his family history- all brothers served- is incredible. I was planning on seeing him this May on my next trip out east. Unfortunately I just found out about his passing. I would have given anything to pay my respects. Your with aunt Mary now Tom. God bless you.
