Thomas Gironda Obituary
Thomas Lynch Gironda, Jr., 82, of Clarksburg, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on October 22, 2025, surrounded by his devoted wife of 60 years, Charlotte, and their six children.
Born on June 13, 1943, to the late Thomas Lynch Gironda, Sr. and Catherine Virginia Gironda, Tom grew up in Garrett Park, Maryland. He graduated from Walter Johnson High School in 1961 and earned his bachelor's degree from American University in 1968.
Tom dedicated 43 years of service to the Montgomery County Government as a building inspector, retiring in 2021. He was known for his diligence, integrity, and quiet professionalism-qualities that earned him the respect and friendship of many colleagues throughout his long career.
Tom was a kind, caring, and selfless man with a playful sense of humor. He was happiest at home surrounded by family and friends, always making sure everyone felt welcome. Whether offering to take a coat or pour a drink, he had a natural way of making guests feel comfortable and valued. He often reminded his children to extend that same hospitality and kindness to others.
He was a prolific reader and lifelong admirer of nature's beauty. He built bookshelves throughout his home to accommodate his ever-growing library. He enjoyed watching nature documentaries and spoke fondly of his childhood travels to national parks with his parents and siblings. He appreciated all living creatures, whether on the screen, in the yard, or by his side-and shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Marla.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte, and their six children: Anne Marie Rowland (John), Stephen Gironda (Andrea), John Gironda (Jenny), Mary Gironda (Tim), Sarah Brown (Jeff), and Catherine Gironda. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kirsten Farley, Ian Sundstrom, Seth Brown, Madeleine Brown, Ella Rowland, Erica Gironda, Evan Gironda, Sophia Gironda, Eli Gironda, Riley Brown, Rowan Brown, and Adeline Brown, two great-grandchildren: Keller and Vander Farley, his sister Cathy Thomas, sisters-in-law Donna Gironda, Anne Matthews, and Janet Ober, brother-in-law Alex Ober, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Michael Gironda; his granddaughter, Zoe Gironda; and his in-laws, George and Virginia Engle.
Tom will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and quiet strength. His gentle spirit and love for family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Frederick Health Hospice, 1 Frederick Health Way, Frederick, MD 21701.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held at a later date.
