Thomas Franklin Gray, born March 28, 1945, passed away peacefully and comfortably in his home while in hospice care, surrounded by his family and loved ones on August 26, 2025, at the age of 80. We believe him to be his wife, Judith Gray’s early birthday present in heaven, as her birthday was August 27th. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose quiet strength and steady presence will be deeply missed.

Tommy was a man who believed in hard work and found joy in the simple things. He took immense pride in everything he did—from providing for his family to keeping his lawn in perfect condition. He loved early mornings spent fishing and quiet afternoons with a crossword puzzle.

Above all, Tommy deeply loved his wife and family. His greatest joy was being surrounded by those he loved, whether gathered around eating supper or sitting around watching NASCAR. He led with love, loyalty, and a deep sense of responsibility, always putting his family first.

He was known for his strong work ethic, honest character, and dry sense of humor. Even in retirement, Thomas never slowed down—always fixing something, helping someone, or maintaining the yard that became a symbol of his dedication and care.

Tommy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Judith Gray; his daughter Suzanna Rice Catalli; his grandson Christopher Eric Martin; his mother Alma Mock; his brother James William Painter; his aunt Mary; and uncles Junior, Peewee, Buddy, Bobby Jean, and Donald Wayne.

He is survived by his daughters Crystal Brigman, Elizabeth Brigman, and Cindy Justus; grandchildren Ashley Brigman, Austin Brigman, Taylor Rice, and Leigh Harris; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Alice Unger and Mary Duty; his uncle Morris Breeden and wife Cheryl Breeden; nephews Gary Smith Jr. and Shawn Smith; and his brother-in-law Mike Shope and wife Karen Shope.

In his final days, Tommy made a heartfelt request to those he left behind:

“Talk to your loved ones more. Tell them that you love them. Visit more often—please.

”Tommy’s final wish was simple but powerful: he didn’t want anyone to be sad. Instead, he asked that his loved ones gather for a cookout, share good food, tell stories, laugh, and remember the good times. He wanted his life to be celebrated with joy, not sorrow.

Tommy leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and quiet strength. His presence will be missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know and love him.
