Thomas Lee Green

Thomas Lee Green, age 85 of Monroe, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.

Born August 29, 1940 in Logansport, IN, Tom was the son of the late Donald and Mary (Closson) Green. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army from Oct. 14, 1963, until being honorably discharged on Sept. 26, 1965.

On June 6, 1970, Tom married JoAnn B. Schlotter at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ft. Wayne, IN. Together they raised three children.

Tom had a long career in the steel industry that began while he was residing in Indiana. After moving to Monroe, he was employed by North Star Steel/Gerdau Steel as a salesperson, starting in 1986. He retired 20 years later as Storeroom Supervisor.

Tom attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and watching Detroit Red Wings hockey games. Mostly, he enjoyed the company of his family who will always fondly remember his quick wit, his humorous personality, and his meticulous detail for general maintenance and cleanliness.

Tom is survived by his wife of 56 years, JoAnn; three daughters: Michelle Lake of Wasilla, AK (soon to be back in Monroe), Karen (Gary) Breetz of Billings, MT, and Sara (Rodney) Elchert of New Riegel, OH; brother, John Green of Kendallville, IN; eight granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a brother, James Green, and a sister, Sue Ellen Crisman.

Family and friends may visit from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Apr. 6th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Deacon Mike Stewart will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by Monroe VFW Post 1138.

In memory of Tom, the family asks that any monetary acts of kindness be directed to Indiana Right to Life or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
