Thomas Grettenberger Obituary

Thomas Albert Grettenberger, age 60, of Owosso, formerly of Laingsburg passed away Monday, October 6, 2025 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 310 N. Crum St., Laingsburg, MI 48848. Rev Fr. Anthony Brooks will celebrate. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am until the time of the Mass.
Born on the Fourth of July in 1965 in St. Johns, Michigan, to Thomas and Kathleen (Coleman) Grettenberger. Thomas was a proud graduate of Laingsburg High School's Class of 1984, where he formed lifelong bonds and began to shape his future. His journey took him to the sunny shores of Florida, where he worked for "Dad's Cookies" and his desire to help others propelled him into a career as an EMT, a role he embraced with dedication.
Eventually, the call of home was too strong to resist, and Thomas returned to Michigan. Here, he continued his commitment to care as an employee of Sparrow Hospital, and later, as a truck driver, he took to the open roads with the same sense of purpose and reliability that he brought to every aspect of his life.
He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as trips to the casino. Above all, Thomas was a family man. His children, Maxwell and Nathaniel Grettenberger, were the pride of his life, and he instilled in them the values of kindness, humor, and a zest for life. His mother, Kathleen "Katie" Grettenberger, along with his brothers, John and Matthew (Shannon) Grettenberger; sisters, Margaret Lauer, Sandra Bird, Michelle (Dwayne) Smith, Virginia Grettenberger, and Samantha (Matthew) Josselyn; his former wife, Elaine Ethridge; and his many nieces and nephews, will forever cherish the memory.
Though we mourn the loss of such a remarkable soul, we take solace in the legacy Thomas leaves behind. His life was a testament to the impact one person can have on the world through simple acts of kindness and a heart full of love.
Thomas was greeted in heaven by his father, Thomas J. Grettenberger; his grandparents; his nephew, Jarrad; and his great-nephew Lucas, who had gone before him.
Memorials are suggested to Pleasant View Assisted Living who offered amazing care to Thomas.
