Thomas Hagan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Whitsell Funeral Home - Morganfield on Mar. 17, 2026.
Thomas Leonard Hagan, age 81 of Morganfield was called home to the Lord on March 16, 2026. He was born April 21, 1944 in DeKoven, KY. Tommy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his faithful wife of 58 years, Joycelyn Dayberry Hagan; his daughters, Melissa (Vincent) Thomas, Holly (Mike) Farina, and Janci (Adam) Farley; and his sons John (Keely) Hagan and Roman (Kara) Hagan.

He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren; Abigail (Jarret) Hardin, Emma Arnold, Ashlyn Farina, Georgia Farina, Hannah Thomas, Myles Thomas, Rhagan Thomas, Breanna Thomas, Caleb Hagan, Hagan Arnold, Kate Hagan, Addison Thomas, Ellison Hagan, Isaiah Hagan, Kaylin Shirley, Liam Hagan, Hannah Farley, and Maci Farley; and his two great granddaughters, Swae and Brynlee.

Tommy is further survived by his brother, Jimmy (Debbie) Hagan; his sisters, Mary Sue (David) Barron and Cathy (Danny Ray) Wolfe; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Leonard Hagan, and his parents, Jim and Imogene Hagan.

Tommy proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After returning home from military service, he worked for Colonial Bread, delivering bread to grocery stores throughout Union County. He then worked for Peabody Coal Company, Camp 11. During a brief mine shutdown, he also served as the custodian at St. Ann's Catholic Church.

Throughout his life, Tommy was active in his community. He was a proud member of the UMWA, The Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. An avid gardener, he took great joy in providing fresh vegetables for his family, neighbors, and friends for many years.

Tommy was a faithful Catholic who generously devoted many weekends to the Cursillo and TEC retreats. In his retirement years, he and Joycelyn enjoyed traveling, attending auctions, and spending time with their grandchildren. He was a regular for years at Long John Silvers coffee club where he would enjoy conversation with friends.

His children and grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy. Tommy worked tirelessly throughout his life to provide for his family. One of his greatest pleasures was pulling his grandchildren in a wagon behind his lawn tractor or rocking them to sleep in his lap. Paw Paw's lap was a favorite place for all the grandchildren.

In recent years, Tommy's health declined and kept him from many of the things he loved, but his faith and his love for his family never wavered.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday, March 20, 2026 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Morganfield. Fr. Bruce McCarty and Fr. Dave Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be 9 AM until service time at the church. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery with full military rites.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to John Paul II Catholic School, 307 S. Church St., Morganfield, KY 42437.
