Thomas William Hannigan, 85 of Paxton, and formerly of Worcester, passed away Friday September 5, at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home.

Tom was born in Worcester, MA, on July 4, 1940, to Joseph and Flora (Drugan) Hannigan. Tom attended North High School, graduating in 1959. From there, Tom matriculated at the New England School of Accounting, graduating in 1961. Tom enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served both active duty and in the reserves from 1961 to 1969.

Tom worked for twenty-nine years as the vice president of the Marane Oil Company in Worcester. Tom then owned and operated Kay Gee Sign, Co. in Auburn for sixteen years. During his "retirement" years, Tom worked at Worcester Internal Medicine, prepping charts and taking care of variable office and patient needs.

In addition to his professional life, Tom was a member of and served in numerous community groups including the Worcester Club, the Grafton Lions Club, the Greendale YMCA, the Benedict Council of the Knights of Columbus, the Forest Grove Parents Council, the Texaco US Distributor Council, the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, the Worcester Sales Executive Club, the United Way Allocation Committee, the Emerald Club, South Worcester Kiwanis Club and the City of Worcester Board of Appeals.

Tom was an avid sailor with a captain's license and spent many of his weekends navigating the waters of Narragansett Bay from his boat slip in Newport RI. He also sailed boats for friends along the East Coast from New England to Florida.

Tom leaves his children, Tom Hannigan Jr. and his wife Carree Syrek, of Croton-On-Hudson, NY; Mike Hannigan and his wife Kim (Crawford), of Paxton; and Katy Hannigan and her husband Kelly Hoisington, of Gardner, his stepdaughters, Lindsey (Symonowicz) Snavely and her husband Dewey, of Fredericksburg VA; and Erin (Symonowicz) Schwochow and her husband Kyle of Woodbridge, VA, as well as 12 grandchildren, a brother, Joseph Hannigan of Worcester, and many nieces and nephews.

Thank you to the staff of the Rose Monahan House who provided compassionate care to Tom during the last few months. We are grateful.

A funeral Mass will take place on Saturday September 27, 2025, at 11:00 am in the Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove Street, Worcester. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's name to the Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center or the Worcester County Food Bank. The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
