Thomas Allen Harder, age 87, of Burlington went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Moses H. Cones Hospital surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the son of the late John Paul and Lila Snyder Harder. He was the husband of 63 years to Doris Price Harder, who survives.
Allen graduated from Haw River High School in 1955. After graduation he moved to Washington, DC to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Fingerprint Division. During that time, he attended Finger Print school and studied law and accounting at Strayer College. He moved back to North Carolina and graduated from Elon College in 1969. He retired from Ramada Inn as the assistant manager after 22 years.
Allen enjoyed playing softball with his church team Crossway, formerly Altamahaw Pentecostal Holiness, walking at the YMCA and playing Putt-Putt. He was a devoted father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of the home, Doris Price Harder; children, Beverly Young and husband, Tim and Allen Harder and wife, Chrissy; grandchildren, Grant Madren, Logan Madren, Kaelyn Young, Alanna Harder, Nicky Smith and Kenny Smith; great grandchildren, Kennedy Young, Maddi Simmons, Brycen Madren, Graham Simmons and Kenzley Madren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence Harder, Carl Harder and Earl Harder and sisters, Doris Fisher and Linda Massey
The service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Mike Johnson and Pastor Darrell Gaines. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45PM prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
