GUILFORD, CT - Thomas Hay, passed away December 25, 2025, at the age of 89. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Tom lived a life marked by dedication to family, faith, community, and excellence in his work.
Born October 25, 1936, in Philadelphia, Tom graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School in 1958 with a B.S. in Economics. During his time at Penn, he was active in the Society for the Advancement of Management, Theta Xi Fraternity, and the Christian Association. He continued his education through management development programs at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the University of Michigan.
Tom built a distinguished 25-year career with Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO Metals), rising from administrative trainee to Director of Marketing Services. He then joined Dayton Power & Light, where he served for 15 years as Regional Development Manager and Manager of Service Operations for Miami County, Ohio.
Never one to do things halfway, Tom simultaneously served as President and CEO of the Troy Ohio Chamber of Commerce and Troy Ohio Development Council from 1995 to 1999. Under his leadership, he championed programs including the Annual Troy Strawberry Festival, Leadership Troy, and Teen Leadership Troy, leaving a lasting impact on the community he loved.
Faith was central to Tom's life. He was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Troy, Ohio for over 30 years, where he faithfully served as an Elder.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents John and Catherine Hay, his brother John Hay, sister Mary Bray and his daughter Catherine Hay.
He is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn; daughters Wendy, Bobette, Jamie, and Marcie; son Tommy; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of hard work, service, and love of family.
Service will be held at 1:00pm on January 3 at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to First Presbyterian Church, 20 S.
