Thomas M. Herr, 88, of Lancaster, PA, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Landis Homes Retirement Community. Tom shared 61 years of marriage with is wife Dorothy “Dot” (Vaughn) Herr before passing in 2023.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Vernon E. and Mary (Moss) Herr. He graduated from J. McCaskey High School, Class of 1955.
Tom worked as a machinist for over 46 years, retiring in 2003. He worked for Federal-Mogul Corporation and then NTN Bearing Company of America.
His many interest included collecting Steiff Teddy Bears and other stuffed animals, road trips to our National Parks, photography, attending live theatre at the Fulton, fine cars, shooting and gun collecting, eating natural peanut butter, historic aircraft, visiting art museums, studying natural history, coin collecting, examining old maps, visiting historic sites, and reading classic novels, especially the work of John Steinbeck. Tom and Dot enjoyed travelling to all 50 states, some multiple times. Tom’s favorite restaurant was Shady Maple
Surviving family includes his niece Linda Arnold (Damon) of Lancaster; nephews, Timothy Vaughn (Paula) of Eastman, GA, Andy Howarth of California, and Ralph Fitzkee of Thomasville, PA; and other nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents and wife, Tom was preceded in death by his brother Vernon Herr, Jr. and wife Erla.
A graveside service will take place at 11 am Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. Private entombment will take place at Conestoga Memorial Park.
