Thomas Hoffman, 88, of Ottawa passed away on Friday evening, September 16, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at St. Columba Church, with Msgr. Mark Merdian, Pastor, officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, at the church. Burial will take place at Abraham Lincoln Nation Cemetery, at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.
Thomas was born on July 18, 1934 in Dubuque, IA to Arnold and Gertrude (Buelow) Hoffman. He was a graduate of Loras College. Thomas was a Veteran of the US Navy, where he served 25 years and reached the rank of Sr. Chief Petty Officer. He married Janice Reed on April 15, 1970 in Norfolk, VA. He worked at First National Bank in Public Relations. Thomas also worked as a realtor, an insurance agent, a teacher, and owned and operated Cards and Coins store. Thomas was a member of Ottawa Catholic Parishes, Knights of Columbus, Rotary, Kiwanis, the Moose Lodge, American Legion Post 33, and the VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; 5 children, Sharon (Thomas) Ruhland of Chillicothe, Brooks (Nikki) Hoffman of Cabot, AR, Les (Lisa) Hoffman of Elk Grove, CA, Anne (Ed) Wolfe, of Ottawa, and Jodie (Michael) Landers of Ottawa; 14 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and a brother, Richard (Karen) Hoffman of Coralville, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sally McGinn.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warriors or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
