Thomas "Tommy" Leroy Hogge, of Gloucester, died on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the age of 81. Tommy was born on June 24, 1943, to the late Garland and Hilda Mae Crockett Hogge. Tommy served in the United States Army in his early 20s, and then when he settled back in Gloucester, he started Belroi Mechanical & Plumbing. He was a passionate sports fan, rooting for the Redskins, LA Dodgers, and of course, Alabama Roll Tide! He enjoyed anything that had to do with spending time with his family, especially cookouts, grandkids' ball games, and camping. Tommy took his family on many camping trips, canoeing, and fishing. During these trips, he challenged his children and grandchildren to play card games where he was not above cheating to win. He enjoyed being part of the action and loved talking with anyone willing to listen. Tommy was an amazing storyteller, specializing in telling stories from the many family trips and recounting family genealogy.
Tommy experienced 81 years of a rich, deep, impassioned life, with an incredible love for his family, a courageous posture, much like his mother, that saw him wade through multiple tragedies, and a strong faith in Jesus Christ.
In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin M. Forrest, son, Steven M. Deal, brothers Garland Hogge, Jr., Charles N. "Boogie" Hogge, and Douglas W. Hogge, several nieces and nephews, and a great-niece.
Tommy is survived by his children, Judy Jennings (Chris), Clifford Hogge, and Brandon Hogge; grandchildren, Ryan Stephenson (Colleen), Patrick Stephenson (Stephany), Andrew Jennings (Chris), Ashley Hintz (Cory), Megan Joyner (Cole), Nathan Deal, Alexis Holland (Graham), Leroy Hogge, Jebediah Hogge, and Braxton Hogge.
He is also survived by his loving sisters, Sandra Walker, Mary Lewis, Debra Alphin (Rex), and Ann Brinkman.
In addition, he is survived by former wives, Linda Hogge (mother of Brandon and Clifford) and Diane Hedrick (mother of Judy, Robin, and Steven), son-in-law Gregory Forrest (Dana), along with 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025, at St. Therese Church, 6262 Main Street, Gloucester, Virginia, with a reception to follow at the church. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the special nurses and staff at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for the loving care given to Daddy and family. In memory of our beloved father, memorial contributions may be given to the VFW Post 824, Grafton, 1700 Tabb Square, George Washington Mem Hwy, Grafton, VA 23693.
