Thomas J Hughes

Thomas Joseph Hughes, 72, of Las Vegas, NV passed away on July 29, 2022. Tom was born on November 20, 1949, to Valens and Kathryn Hughes of Circle Pines, MN.
He graduated from Centennial High School, Circle Pines, MN, and the University of Minnesota in the first class of music therapy graduates. He began working with adults with disabilities as a music therapist at Greenhaven Heights in St. Paul, MN.
He met his wife, Juliana (Julie) Cooper, skiing in Wisconsin. They married later that year on June 2, 1978. They were blessed with 2 sons and 44 years of marriage, living in St. Louis Park and Eden Prairie, MN, and later in Henderson and Las Vegas, NV.
Tom had a passion for shooting guns and golf balls, these pastimes live on through his sons and grandchildren. Although they don't always agree on favorite cable news networks, anyone who has visited his home or office and looked at the pictures on his desk can plainly see the unconditional love he held for his children and grandchildren. Their achievements in dance, soccer, academics, hunting, and business were favorite topics of conversation. Tom was always their biggest supporter, whether it was as a teacher, coach, husband, father, or grandfather. The pride in his heart shined brightly through his eyes and smile.
As a businessman, Tom began his career in financial services at New York Life and went on to hold prominent positions at Firstar Bank, PrimeVest Financial, and CNA Life Insurance. Perpetually driven, Tom harnessed his entrepreneurial spirit when he started his own business in partnership with his wife in 2008. He made many business connections and treasured friendships throughout Las Vegas and the Southwestern United States. Anyone would agree that Tom's work ethic and moral compass were infallible.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Valens and Kathryn Hughes.
Tom is survived by his wife Juliana (Julie) Hughes, sons Scott (Amy) Hughes and Dale Hughes, brothers Timothy (Vicky) Hughes and David (Karen) Hughes, grandchildren Holly, Noah, and Ethan Hughes, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at St. Joseph of the Lakes Catholic Church, 171 Elm Street, Lino Lakes, MN. A luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association are preferred.
