Thomas Hunter Obituary

Thomas was born on November 19, 1948, in Nyack, NY, the son of the late Leon B. and Aina Hunter. He graduated from Lisbon Central School in 1967 and later enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict, serving as a medic. He was honorably discharged and then entered the Army Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Thomas received an associate's degree in nursing from SUNY Canton and later earned his bachelor's degree in nursing from SUNY Utica–Rome. On September 6, 1969, he married Alice L. McCarthy at the Methodist Church in Ogdensburg, with the Rev. Kenneth Lord officiating.
He began his career as a Registered Nurse at Claxton-Hepburn Hospital in the Operating Room. He continued his nursing career at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center and later served as Nurse Administrator at Riverview Correctional Facility until his retirement.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Alice Hunter of Ogdensburg; a daughter, Amanda Hunter of Potsdam; a grandson, Cooper Hunter of Potsdam; a brother-in-law, Ronald Zuirlein; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Leon B. and Aina Hunter; a son, Mark J. Hunter, in 2015; a sister, Theresa Zuirlein; and a brother, Paul A. Hunter.
Thomas enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Cooper. He also enjoyed walking his dog, listening to country music, hunting, fishing, painting, and cooking.
