Thomas Allen Inghram was carried by an army of angels through the gates of Heaven on June 4, 2025. Born on September 11, 1933, in his family home in Cedar Grove, West Virginia, Tom spent nearly 92 years walking faithfully with the Lord, spreading joy, wisdom, and laughter to all who had the blessing of knowing him.
Tom's love for his family was rivaled only by his unwavering devotion to his beloved West Virginia University Mountaineers. Tom was a proud veteran, having served his country with honor. In December 1953, Tom began basic training with E Company, 61st Infantry Division. After basic training, Tom was assigned to Camp Gordon, Georgia, to be trained as a military police officer. He was then transferred to New Cumberland General Depot, a material shipping center and military prison. As an MP, he worked 24-hour shifts followed by two days off. Like many MP's. Tom would spend his second day off meticulously preparing his uniform and boots for inspection before returning to duty. Tom was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on December 7, 1955. He returned home to Cedar Grove and completed his degree in Chemistry at Morris Harvey College in Charleston, West Virginia. After college,
Tom was recruited by Appalachian Power Company for coal analysis, a role he continued with American Electric Power (AEP) after a subsequent transition. Tom took immense pride in his involvement with the coal supply for 15 power plants, handling in excess of 28 million tons of coal per year. He dedicated 38 years of service before retiring from AEP in 1995.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas B. and Lucille (Larck) Inghram; his infant brother, Richard Lee; his infant sister, Mary Lou; and many cherished friends,
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Sue Ann (Harrison) Inghram; brother-in-law, Ross "Pepper" Harrison; daughter, Terri Lynn (Inghram) Colbert; son-in-law, John Colbert; granddaughter, Jessica (Inghram-Colbert) Holstine; grandson-in-law, Ryan Holstine; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Cadence, and Jackson. Tom will also be missed by his very favorite canine, Jakey-Dog.
The Inghram family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Violet Springs Health Center, the Lithopolis United Methodist Church family, Suncrest Hospice, Pastor Alex Feldman, Steven Murry, George Tootle, and the many friends who enriched Tom's life with love and companionship.
We will celebrate Tom's life and legacy on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Lithopolis United Methodist Church, 80 N. Market Street, Lithopolis, Ohio. Calling hours will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 PM.
