J "Lance" Boyer, 81, of
Lancaster, Ohio, passed away on February 5th at home peacefully in his sleep.
Lance was born June 24th, 1944, in
Mendon, Ohio to Joseph and Dorothy. He was a graduate of Mendon Union High School. Lance went on to open his first of four Goodyear Auto Service Centers in 1984, with one still in operation today.
He will be remembered for his intensity and passion on the racetrack. Lance began racing as a teen, continuing into adulthood. He raced in various categories throughout his time. His true passion in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Racing. He received The Crosby Award in 1992 for outstanding display of sportsmanship and dedication to the sport of motorcycle drag racing.
He lived his life through the Golden Rule, treating others with respect. His kind heart and genuine nature has created a profound loss felt by those closest to him. During his golden years, Lance enjoyed semi-retirement by spending time with his family, mowing his grass, and watching NASCAR.
Lance was preceded in death by the love of his life, his soulmate and his wife, Janie; parents, Joseph and Dorothy; and children, Jeff and Julie. Lance is survived by his children, Shannon, Shawn (Rosemary), and Jen (Ron); sister, Colleen; grandchildren, Brishan, Ashley, DJ, Jacob, Derrik, Hunter, Gabriel, and Sophia; great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Rachel, and Ruth; and and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 14th, 2026, from 11:00AM-1:00PM at Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 650 W Waterloo St,
Canal Winchester, OH 43110, with a celebration of life to follow at 1:00PM. Burial to follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 351 Coonpath Rd NE,
Lancaster, OH 43130. The family invites all who knew Lance to attend and share memories.
