Thomas H. Jensen

1936 - 2023

Thomas H. Jensen, 86, of Murrysville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, at his home, after a long fight with Parkinson's Disease. He was born May 9, 1936, in Jeannette, son of the late Thomas and Ellen Petersen Jensen. He was a 1954 graduate of Jeannette High School. He entered ROTC and graduated from Carnegie Tech (now known as CMU) in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. While visiting family in Denmark in 1958, he met his wife, Berith. It was love at first sight and after corresponding for a year, he proposed, and they were married a year later. They later returned to Denmark to mark their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Export, a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and participated in the Pittsburgh Folk Festival. During his career at PPG's Fiber Glass division, from 1961 to his retirement in 1999, Thomas earned a number of patents for improving the production of fiberglass. Alongside his father, he ran the family business, Jensen Manufacturing Co., Home of Jensen Steam Engines, in Jeannette. After his father's passing, he continued to run the company until turning it over to his children. Thomas loved to travel and see different places but especially enjoyed trips to Denmark to see his family. He enjoyed cars, especially his Corvette. He loved being a private pilot and flying the local skies and he took great pride and joy in being able to design and build his dream house. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Berith (Christiansen) Jensen; two children, Aleta Jane Jensen and John Allan (Thais) Jensen; three grandchildren, Hannah, Anders and Corbin; a sister, Betty (David) Meil; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and Denmark. Entrusted with the arrangements is HART FUNERAL HOME INC., Murrysville. There will be no public visitation or services.
