Thomas Mack Johnson

Thomas Mack Johnson, 86, of Grinnell, IA passed away on October 19, 2025, at Montezuma Specialty Care.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on October 24, 2025, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, IA. A graveside service will be held following the visitation at 12:30 pm at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

Thomas was born on September 19, 1939, to Francis Scott and Gladys Opal (See) Johnson in Grinnell, IA. He was raised in Grinnell and joined the Army before he graduated high school and then obtained his GED while in the service.
After Thomas was honorably discharged from the Army, after serving during the Vietnam war, he returned to Grinnell where he lived most of his life. He worked for Maytag, for Manatt's driving truck, and as an over-the-road trucker.
He enjoyed watching football, wrestling and car racing. He will be remembered for being able to stop someone and start a conversation. He was a member of the Newton American Legion.
Thomas is survived by his son, Scott (Brenda Cline) Johnson, son, Ted (Sheila) Johnson and his 5 children, his daughter, Jenny Mae and her son, Charles, and his daughter, Natasha (Steve) Redwine, and her daughters Cheyenne and Americus Williamson.
He is preceded by his parents, grandparents, aunt, Ethel Beason, and uncle, Jesse See.
