Thomas Kanary Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center - Murray on Sep. 27, 2023.
Thomas William Kanary, 70, of Pittsburgh, peacefully passed away on September 22, 2023, in Provo, Utah. He was born on October 3, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Thomas, affectionately known as Tom, will be remembered for his stubborn, sarcastic, witty personality which he lovingly passed on to his two younger children.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Dianne Kanary (Shirley), daughters Erica (John) and Allison (Charlie), son Hayden (Nicole), and his 11 adoring grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, George, his mother, Ida (Shook), and his brother, Scott.
Tom attended Slippery Rock High School and upon his graduation in 1971, joined the United States Air Force. While stationed in Okinawa, Tom discovered his passion for motorcycles and began racing motocross. He also found his faith in the Lord and became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, which became a cornerstone of his life.
Upon his honorable discharge, Tom attended Ricks College where he majored in horticulture and landscape. He also met the love of his life Dianne, and married her in 1975. Together they started their family and had 3 children. They remained by each other's side, through any adversities, until his passing.
Throughout his career in landscape management, Tom displayed an exceptional eye for detail and a passion for creating beautiful outdoor spaces. His meticulous work transformed countless landscapes into breathtaking havens.
Outside of his professional life, Tom found joy in his hobbies. He had a deep love of Ford Cars, NASCAR racing, Classic Rock music, and, of course, his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. His enthusiasm for these interests brought him happiness and provided shared moments and memories together with loved ones.
A ceremony to honor Tom's life will take place on October 2, 2023 at 9:30 AM at the chapel of Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park located at 17111 South Camp Williams Rd, Bluffdale, UT.
Please join us in remembering and celebrating the life of Tom Kanary. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
