Thomas Duane Kaneski, 67, of Cloquet, MN passed away on April 26, 2024 at Essentia Health in Duluth, MN due to various health complications. He was surrounded at the time of his passing with family by his side.
Tom was born on May 4, 1956 to James and Shirley Kaneski in Duluth, MN at St. Mary's Medical Center. He spent his childhood years in Kenwood and Fredenberg Township and attended elementary school at Kenwood Elementary. He then started Junior High at Hermantown. Tom began his career working at Soo Line Railroad while still completing his high school education. He received his diploma from Hermantown High School in 1975. He worked at Soo Line for many years until he pursued another position at Black Bear Casino in Carlton, MN. He retired from Black Bear Casino in 2016.
During his retirement years, Tom spent his time visiting Grand Portage where he was a member of the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and spending time with his beloved dachshund and yorkies. Tom had many close friends and cherished the relationships he had with those loved ones over the years. He had an incredible sense of humor, a laugh that no one could ever forget, and will be missed by many.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, James and Shirley Kaneski.
Tom is survived by his two brothers, James (Barbara) Kaneski and Daniel (Melissa) Kaneski; along with many nieces and nephews, Jesse Kaneski (Ashley Erkilla), Nick (Melissa) Kaneski, Courtney (Jay) Crilley, Cassidy Kaneski (Trevor Ehnes), Travis (Samantha) Kaneski, Brittan Kaneski, Amity Kaneski, Elle Kaneski, and Alexia Erkilla.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and all other hospital staff at Essentia Health in Duluth who gave Tom incredible care.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 27th from 12 – 3 PM at the Fredenberg Community Center in Fredenberg Township. All are welcome to attend.
