Our beloved husband, father & grandfather, Thomas "Tom" King, went home to be with God on June 5, 2023 at the age of 82.
Tom was born September 8, 1940, the third child of Alida (née Bourque) and Rene King in the town of Fairfield Maine, where he attended Lawrence High School. As a young man, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, where he served for 7 years. After basic training, Tom began work at the Keyes Fibre mill in the village of Shawmut.
At 19, he married the love of his life, Deanna (née Brousseau). Tom and Deanna were an affectionate, through-thick-and-thin couple who loved to dance the jitterbug, go antiquing on the Maine coast, and, most of all, spend time with their family. The couple settled in their family home in Shawmut, where they raised their 4 children. He was a dedicated father, their provider and protector, filling his children's lives with memories, love, and laughter.
After his retirement, he spent time doing carpentry and woodworking in "Geppetto's Workshop", selling his wares at craft fairs and gifting them to his loved ones. He was an avid fisherman, who enjoyed tying flies and relished spending time in Jackman. Even in his last weeks, he asked his wife to bring him his fly tying supplies to pass the time.
Tom was a dedicated Christian who lived a good, Godly life. He served many years as a deacon at Fairfield First Baptist Church, where he and his family attended faithfully throughout his life. There was no one more devoted, diligent, and steadfast. Though he had many health struggles, his tenacity and zest for life brought him through many tough times.
Tom was proud to be called Papa by his 11 grandchildren and their families: Scott Marcoux, Sarah Gammon, Patrick & Kristin Leahy, Derek & Michelle King, Emily & Steven Gower, Megan & Andrew Boone, Jacob & Lindsay Marcoux, Clay & Leah Marcoux, Elizabeth King, Kelly & Ryan Stinneford, Danielle Garber & Jesse Barrows, and Shea O'Brien.
Tom was predeceased by his daughter Rhonda Garber and his sister Carla King.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Deanna; his children: son David King and wife Jennifer, daughter Corrina Marcoux and husband Marc, son Brian King and wife Valerie, son-in-law Greg Garber; his siblings: brother Rene "Sonny" King, Jr. and partner Carol Estes, brother Steve King and wife Valerie, sister Renette Couture and husband Harvey, and sister Karen Wheeler and partner David "Red" Webster; his grandchildren and their families (including 16 great-grandchildren); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held on July 29 at 11am at the First Baptist Church on Main Street in Pittsfield.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the care professionals with MaineGeneral Home Care & Hospice and to the staff at MaineGeneral Comfort Care at Glenridge for their care and compassion.
